Dr. Rafael Hernandez Sr. is a board certified ophthalmologist and the founder of Eye Consultants & Surgeons of Miami. Dr. Hernandez studied medicine at the University of Havana Medical School where he graduated and went on to begin his own practice. Following his arrival to the U.S., he completed an internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. The love for his specialty led him to pursue another full Ophthalmology residency at the Truman Medical Center, University of Missouri in Kansas City after which he began his private practice in 1972. Throughout his career, he served as president of the Cuban Ophthalmological Association and the Miami Ophthalmological Society. Over the years he has been affiliated with several professional societies including the American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Florida Medical Association, and the Dade County Medical Association to name a few. Dr. Rafael Hernandez specializes in Comprehensive/General Ophthalmology. He has earned a reputation among his peers and patients as an honest, caring, and knowledgeable physician.
